MARIST PROFESSOR WINS AWARD FOR HIS FIRST NOVEL

English Professor Tommy Zuhellen was recently distinguished by the Independent Publisher Awards. His debut novel Nazareth, North Dakota was bestowed a Gold Medal for Best Regional Fiction – Mid-West. Zurhellen has taught creative writing at Marist since 2004 and holds an MFA in Fiction from the University of Alabama and an MA in English from Western Washington University. His short fiction and essays have appeared in a number of literary journals, including Quarterly West, Carolina Quarterly, and Appalachee Review. A display of his works is featured on the second floor of the library. Atticus Books recently published Zurhellen’s second novel, Apostle Islands, in September of 2012.
