Historical Note:

Brother Gerard Matthew Weiss was a long-time Spanish language professor at Marist College. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Marian College in 1949 and his Masters Degree from St. John’s University. From 1957-1975 Brother Gerard was Professor of Spanish at Marist College and during that period of time he founded the Department of Modern Languages. In 1973, he left the Marist Order, but continued on at Marist. Because of Brother Gerard’s dedication to the teaching of modern languages, a Modern Language Lab in the James A. Cannavino Library was dedicated in his memory. The Weiss Collection includes photographs of members of the Weiss family, sermons written by Edson E. Weiss, diaries of Jennie Henderson Weiss (the wife of Andrew J. Weiss), pictures, and various letters of correspondence and documents originating from Edson Weiss to his sons Orin (also knows as Orion) and Andrew Weiss.
