Appendix III: Proposed Acquisitions
in the Hudson-Mohawk Corridor

Following is a summary of proposed acquisitions for various purposes in connection with fish and wildlife programs.

Boat-launching Sites

The following specific sites have been selected and plans for development are in various stages of progress as indicated.

Tri-city area (Albany and
Rensselaer Cos.)
Pending word from Waterfront
Commission about inclusion in
their overall plan
 Coxsackie (Greene Co.) Completed
Newburgh (Orange Co.) Leased and under construction
Athens (Greene Co.) To be acquired in 1965
Hudson (Columbia Co.) To be acquired in 1966
Kingston (Ulster Co.) To be leased in 1966
Beacon (Dutchess Co.) To be leased in 1967
Haverstraw (Rockland Co.) Possibly to be leased
Castleton Island (Rensselaer Co.)           Under consideration

Sites are also needed in the vicinity of Highland, Port Ewen and Poughkeepsie. A site or sites would also be desirable in Westchester County, but nothing is proposed because of the difficulty of obtaining land and because the county itself is doing considerable marine development.

Boat-access Sites

A boat-access site on Burdens Pond in Rensselaer County near Troy is being considered.

Public fishing Rights

Approximately 40 miles of the Hudson River between Glens Falls and North River are being considered. This would include boat-launching and boat-access sites.

Wetlands

The following wetland areas are being considered for acquisition.

Tivoli Bay (800 acres) on the Hudson River in Dutchess County.

Manitau Marsh (30 acres) on Hudson River just north of Bear Mountain Bridge in Putnam County.

Oriskany Flats, i.e., the flood plain of the Mohawk River between Oriskany and Rome in Oneida County.

Multiple-use Areas

A marsh area of about 70 acres in the vicinity of Victory Mills in Saratoga County is under consideration for marsh management together with additional upland for multiple use.
