LETTER 101 Commentary
Apologetic to Miss Howe for causing any discrepancy between her and her mother, Clarissa laments the number of people she has disappointed by her actions with Lovelace. She further laments her family’s abandonment of her, and of how she will handle further action with Lovelace. Claiming she will follow Miss Howe’s advice, the reader can’t help but be skeptical since she has been reckless up to this point and does not seem to have made any great motion towards changing her ways. Clarissa will need to prove to Miss Howe, herself, and the reader that she has truly wised up and will be able to ward off Lovelace’s rakish plots in the future.-AD
