Announcing the Zine Library!
The library now has a zine library! Zines are independently made, self-published works that can be made by anyone, including you. They're made for the sake of creation and sharing information, not for profit or acclaim, and they don't require much to create. If you have paper and a pen, you can make a zine! Because anyone can make a zine, they're a way for diverse voices to make themselves and their ideas heard.
In an academic library, zines are a way for people to be exposed to voices and ideas that are not always seen in academic spaces. They're also a way for students to add their voices to the collection, which can be difficult in academic spaces due to a variety of barriers. Zines are also fun, and they're an excellent way to unwind, de-stress, and make something just for the sake of making something.
The library is collecting more zines and adding to the collection. We're also hosting zine making events throughout the semester. We're also available to come into classes and talk about zines and to work with student groups and other departments on campus. We encourage students to donate their zines, because we want to hear your voices and let them have a space in the library and here at Marist.
Most of the zines in the collection can be checked out of the library. We also encourage you to come explore the zine library. There are many zines to read, as well as supplies to make your own zines.
