Mangazibit: The Many Sides of Manga

A library display featuring numerous manga books underneath a big banner reading "Mangazibit: The Many Sides of Manga" display.

Located on the second floor of the library is a new Manga display, “Mangazibit: The Many Sides of Manga”. The display was created in partnership with Professor Lu’s First Year Seminar Anime and East Asian Cultures. The display showcases the different facets of Manga. There is a plethora of genres, student-written definitions, common tropes, and visual effects used in Manga. The display also highlights differences between manga produced in different places, like Japanese Manga, Chinese Manhua, and Korean Manhwa, as well as Eastern adaptations.

The display hopes to highlight Manga as a genre of both literature and art and draw in new readers.

Along with the display, on Friday, April 10, 3:30pm, in DN1008, Dr. Hiromi Tsuchiya Dollase, Professor of Japanese at Vassar College, will visit our campus and give a talk about women manga artists and how their works challenge gender stereotypes and boundaries in Japan.

The display will be up in the library through May 18th.
