Sponsored Programs and Research Office
Marist Support Staff and Administrative Collaborators
The following departments and offices are commonly involved in proposal development and/or project implementation. The specific collaborators that engage will depend on the nature of the project's activities, which will determine the university's compliance and collaboration requirements. Please work with the Sponsored Programs and Research Office to identify the appropriate point of contact for your project needs.
Admission Office: Supports recruitment efforts for grant-funded programs by helping identify prospective undergraduate and graduate students whose interests align with project goals. May also assist with data requests for proposal development and help share project information with prospective students and families.
Advancement: Attracts resources to make Marist education more accessible to students, enhance the University’s academic and extracurricular experiences, and improve the physical campus. Support services for faculty and staff include project development and sustainability, cross-campus collaboration, and guidance throughout the grant process, from identifying funding opportunities to final submission. Contact Samantha Wiley, Director of Corporate, Foundation, and Government Grants, for more information.
The Advancement Office focuses on grants for:
- Campus-wide initiatives
- Community initiatives
- Scholarships
- Capital projects
- Projects and initiatives that fall outside of research and curriculum development
Business Office: Plays a critical in ensuring the effective management and oversight of awarded funds. This office is responsible for maintaining compliance with sponsor guidelines, institutional policies, and federal regulations while supporting project leaders in the financial administration of their grants and contracts. From budget reconciliation and expense tracking to financial reporting and audits, the Business Office ensures fiscal responsibility and accountability throughout the lifecycle of each award. By working collaboratively with faculty and staff, we aim to facilitate responsible stewardship of awarded funds. The Business Office has primary responsibility for:
- Financial Reporting
- Invoicing
- Effort Reports
- Cash Management Requirements
- Audit coordination of sponsored projects
General Counsel: Guides on legal matters related to sponsored projects—such as contract review, compliance, and intellectual property—in coordination with the Sponsored Programs and Business Offices. Ensures that research agreements align with institutional policies and legal standards. Please note: All communications with General Counsel related to sponsored projects should be initiated through the Sponsored Programs or Business Office.
Housing and Catering: Collaborate to accommodate participants, researchers, or collaborators who require on-campus or off-campus housing. Additionally, assist with food and beverage arrangements for events, conferences, or community outreach efforts related to the project.
IT Support: Ensure that technical infrastructure, including software, hardware, and data management, is in place to support project execution.
Institutional Review Board (IRB): Responsible for reviewing and approving all research involving human participants to ensure it meets ethical standards. For more details, please see our webpage's Research Integrity & Responsible Conduct section.
James A. Cannavino Library: Provide research materials, data management tools, and resources for the project, including access to archives, publications, and databases.
Archives and Special Collections: Provide access to unique primary source materials, historical documents, and rare items that support original research and enhance the scholarly value of the project.
Operations and Events Staff: Assist with logistical coordination, scheduling, and managing events or activities related to the project.
Physical Plant and Facilities: Provides necessary space and infrastructure support, ensuring the physical environment aligns with project needs.
